Funeral services for James P. Yeates, 74, of Lufkin will be held Monday, March 28, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Lufkin’s First United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Jerome Brimmage officiating. A reception will be held in the Allen Parlor from 1:45 to 2:30 p.m. following the services. Graveside services will be held at 3:45 p.m. in the Homer Community Cemetery in Jasper County, off Highway 255 South.
Mr. Yeates was born April 4, 1941 in Lufkin, Texas to the late James M. and Mildred Yeates of Jasper, Texas, and died Sunday, March 20, 2016 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Mr. Yeates graduated from Jasper High School in 1959 and from the University of Texas Pharmacy School in 1964. He began practicing pharmacy at the Spivey and Thames Clinic in Lufkin, then opened Medical Discount Pharmacy in 1966. He retired to travel in his Airstream trailer with his wife, Marietta “Cookie” Yeates. They were married 52 years and traveled in their Airstream for 14 years. Mr. Yeates was a member of Lufkin’s First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Cookie Yeates; sons, Jim Yeates, Joel Yeates, and Adam Yeates; daughter, Stacy Lee; grandsons, Jack Yeates and wife Brandi, Dustin Yeates, J.J. Lee, Robbie Lee, and Andrew Craig; granddaughter, Jennifer Lee; and many, many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Pallbearers will be Dr. Tom Duncan, Tommy Thompson, Mack Coward, Jerry Moore, Doug Smith, Larry Rowell, Tommy Largent, Paul Bevering, Daniel Lopez, and Lynwood Jostes.
Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Murray, Dick Albrecht, Paul Weinstein, Dr. H.L. Hughey, Bob Morgan, Dr. Richard Pulaski, Dr. Charles Kent, and former employees of Medical Discount Pharmacy and Thompson Pharmacy.
Memorial contributions may be made to Lufkin’s First United Methodist Church, 805 E. Denman Avenue, Lufkin, Texas 75901, Homer United Methodist Church, 2345 County Road 023, Jasper, Texas 75951, or to the charity of your choice.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday evening at Carroway Funeral Home.
