Funeral services for Victor “Vic” Powell, 83, of Lufkin will be held Friday, March 25, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Bryan Lipscomb officiating. Graveside services with military honors will follow in the Largent Cemetery. Mr. Powell was born January 27, 1933 in Groveton, Texas to the late Luther and Sally (Lawrence) Powell and died Saturday, March 19, 2016 at Castle Pines Health and Rehabilitation in Lufkin. Mr. Powell had resided in Lufkin for 31 years. He served in the United States Air Force and worked as a Barber for 57 years. Mr. Powell was a talented musician and loved bluegrass music. He loved to play stringed instruments; guitar, fiddle, mandolin, and dobro to name a few. He was a member and retired Deacon of Providence Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Nina Powell of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Vicki and Ron Garfield of Manhattan Beach, California; grandsons, Tyler Garfield of Manhattan Beach, California and Jared Garfield and wife, Jamie, of Cumming, Georgia; great-grandchildren, Alexis Garfield and Camden Garfield, both of Cumming, Georgia; sisters, Bernice Mason of Lufkin and Olivia Toddy of New Caney; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Homer Powell; 5 brothers; 3 sisters. Memorial contributions may be made to Providence Baptist Church Building Fund, 4423 Ted Trout Dr., Lufkin, Texas 75904. The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.
