Christie Pickard

June 26, 1939 — February 18, 2016

Funeral services for Christie Pickard, 76, of Zavalla will be held Sunday, February 21, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Stephen Forrest officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park. Mrs. Pickard was born June 26, 1939 in Hollywood, California to the late Fred and Jewel (Morgan) Tackett and received her eternal reward for living a life committed and entrusted to Jesus Christ on Thursday, February 18, 2016. Mrs. Pickard lived her life as a servant of God and others. She blessed countless individuals through her sweet spirit and willingness to serve. She always put others before herself and would do whatever necessary to enlighten and inspire those around her. Mrs. Pickard was a dedicated wife, a loving mother, and the best “granny” her grandchildren could ask for. Her grandkids brought her much joy and happiness. Her greatest wish was to spend time with them. Her thoughts and actions were always focused on an effort to make someone else’s life better. She did that by making chocolate cakes for anyone who needed to smile. She made her famous Mexican Chicken Casserole for those who were sick, tired, or just needed to know someone loved them. She made baby blankets for everyone who was having a child, whether she knew them or not. Mrs. Pickard was a member of First Baptist Church Zavalla. She spent many years working in VBS, teaching Sunday school, and working in the GA program. The impact she made in lives of the children she worked with will never be able to be adequately measured. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, service, and love. The example she set will live on in the lives of her children, grandchildren, and the countless friends whose lives she touched. Survivors include her husband of 56 years, JB Pickard; daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Billy Weaver of Zavalla; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Sherrie Pickard of Zavalla; grandchildren, Jessica and Marco Bautista, Sean and Nikki Pickard all of Lufkin, and Caitlin, Courtney, and Christian Weaver of Zavalla; sister, Melva Terry of Lufkin; a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Deidre Pickard. Pallbearers will be Sean Pickard, Christian Weaver, Marco Bautista, and Billy Weaver. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice in the Pines, 1504 W. Frank Avenue or Zavalla First Baptist Church, 1034 E Main St, Zavalla, TX 75980. The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Saturday evening at the funeral home. Memories and condolences may be added, and live webcasting of the services may be viewed at www.carrowayfuneralhome.com. Carroway Funeral Home, Lufkin, directors.
