Funeral services for Gene A. Shoemaker, 73, of Lufkin will be held Saturday, February 20, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Keith Woolf and Brother Keith Bickley officiating. Interment will follow in the Gann Cemetery. Mr. Shoemaker was born August 7, 1942 in Seabrook, Texas to the late Wiley Jefferson “Jadie” and Willie May (Duffey) Shoemaker and died Wednesday, February 17, 2016 in Lufkin. Mr. Shoemaker was a lifetime resident of Lufkin. He retired after 26 years of employment from the Water Treatment Department of Abitibi. Mr. Shoemaker served with the Central Volunteer Fire Department for 38 years. Of those years he served as Chief for 8 years. He was instrumental in acquiring numerous trucks and both fire stations. Mr. Shoemaker was currently a board member. He had numerous other achievements. Mr. Shoemaker was a member of O’Quinn Baptist Church. Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Curtis and Danette Shoemaker of Pollok; daughter and son-in-law, Delores and Jimmy Reynolds of Lufkin; grandson and wife, Forest and Lauren Shoemaker; grandson, Rusty Redd of Pollok; granddaughters and husbands, Addie (Redd) and Nathan Alexander of Pollok and Rebecca and Donald Guillot of Hudson; 6 great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Tucker Alexander, Bladin and Barley Redd, Skyler Powers, and Bentley Shoemaker; brothers and sisters-in-law, Roy and Hannah Shoemaker of Temple, Herschel and Pat Shoemaker of Lufkin, Wiley Jr. and Tammy Shoemaker of Oklahoma, and John Paul and Mary Shoemaker of Pollok; sisters, Edith Turner of Texas and Diane Kolb of Lufkin; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his brother Felton Shoemaker. Pallbearers will be Dennis Cochran, Garland Bates, Jason Thaker, John Moore, Oscar Rabago, and Tim Mathews. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Central Volunteer Fire Department. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice in the Pines, 1504 W. Frank Avenue, Lufkin, Texas 75904, the O’Quinn Baptist Church - Youth Department, 7433 N. U.S. Hwy. 69, Pollok, Texas 75969, or the Central Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 66, Pollok, Texas 75969. The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
