A memorial “Celebration of Life” for George Charles Freshour, 73, will be held Saturday, February 27, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at his home in Zavalla, Texas for family and friends.
George was born September 16, 1942 in Nacogdoches, Texas to the late George F. and Faye A. Freshour, and died Friday, February 5, 2016 at is home surrounded by his loving family, friends and beloved fur-daughter, Molly, after a short intense battle with cancer. He had resided in Zavalla for the last 48 years. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS St. Paul from 1959-1963 and then worked the rest of his career in the industrial construction field. He was retired from Temple Associates but had also worked with Texas Foundries, among other companies.
He enjoyed traveling, camping, fishing and his family. After retirement, he and his beloved Susan worked for 4 years in the most magical place in the world - Yellowstone National Park. He had the privilege of visiting all 50 of these beautiful United States (48 of them with Susan) but was always drawn back to the Rocky Mountains of Wyoming and Montana. He still has many dear and special friends living in these areas.
Survivors include his spouse of 29 years, Susan Dodds Freshour of Zavalla; daughter and son-in-law, Angela and Billy Lee of Hudson; grandchildren and their spouses, Randal and Alene Runnels of Hudson and Meagan and Chris Wheeler of Central; and the loves of his life, his precious great-grandchildren, Braeden Runnels, Braelyn Wheeler and Emory Rose Runnels. He is also survived by children-of-his-heart, Jacque and Alan Watts of Tyler and Bruce and Debbie Johnson of Zavalla; sisters-in-law, Robin Bailey of Michigan and Ima Freshour of Nacogdoches; a number of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and other extended family; and his much loved adopted Yellowstone family. He is also survived by his very special four-legged fur-daughter, Molly. Besides his Susan, she was the most important thing in his life for nearly 13 years.
He was preceded in death by his precious son, George Charles Freshour, Jr; father, George F. Freshour; mother, Faye A. Martin Freshour; brothers, John Lee Freshour and Ronnie Freshour; mother-in-law, Cleo Dodds Bailey; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
