Funeral services for Gertrue Dent, 83, of Lufkin will be held Thursday, February 18, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend David Valentine officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park. Mrs. Dent was born August 1, 1932 in San Augustine, Texas to the late Hollis Fletcher and Ivy Lou (Bailey) Stringer, and died Sunday, February 14, 2016 in a local nursing home. Mrs. Dent had resided in Lufkin since 1951. She was a Cosmetician for Eckerd Drugs for 26 years. Mrs. Dent loved to work in her yard and cook. Her azaleas would fill her yard with pink blooms. Most of all, she loved her family. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her great enjoyment. She looked forward to being with her brothers and sisters to laugh and share their life stories. Mrs. Dent was a member of Redland Baptist Church. She was a Godly woman who served in church all her life. “Her children will rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her.” - Proverbs 31:28. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Sherri Dent of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Jeanne and Kenny Modisette of Pollok; grandchildren and their spouses, Dena and Russell Strban of Hudson, Weldon Dent of Lufkin, Cristy and Justin Woodland of Flint, Kerri and Victor Garcia, and Karla and Nick Terry, all of Pollok; great-grandchildren, Trey Garcia, Taylor Garcia, Kate Terry, Mason Terry, and Jacob Elliott; brothers and sister-in-law, Hollis V. Stringer and Chester and Sherry Stringer; sister and brother-in-law, Bonnie and John McCary; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, L.C. and Lois Ellington; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Fred H. Dent in 1992; and sister, Marjorie Ellington in 2002. Pallbearers will be Weldon Dent, Russell Strban, Justin Woodland, Victor Garcia, Nick Terry, and Trey Garcia. The family extends special thanks to Patrice, Brigitte, Debra, Alfreda, TaQuita, CNAs and staff at Larkspur; also Dr. Karina Urquia and Hospice in the Pines. These organizations gave our mother excellent care and comfort. Memorial contributions may be made to Redland Baptist Church, 234 Redland Church Road, Lufkin, Texas 75901. The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
