Sam Permenter, Sr.

Funeral services for Sam L. Permenter, Sr., 76, of Lufkin will be held Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Huie Permenter and Brother Buck Furlow officiating. Interment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery.

Mr. Permenter was born July 21, 1939 in Shelby County, Texas to the late Thomas Bryant and Nellie Daisy (Taylor) Permenter and went home to meet the Lord Jesus on Sunday, January 24, 2016 at his residence in Lufkin.

Mr. Permenter resided in Lufkin for over 44 years. He served his country in the United States Navy for over 4 years and later went on to become a supervisor for Champion International Paper Mill where he worked for 30 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and farming. Mr. Permenter was a Deacon at the Little Flock Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Wilma (Ricks) Permenter of Lufkin; son, Sam L. Permenter, Jr. of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Dawn Marie and Dalton Gauthier of Lufkin; grandchildren, Devon Pursley, Victoria Pursley, and Noah Shuell; brother and sister-in-law, W.T. and Marie Permenter of Belton; brother, Gus Permenter of Joaquin; brother and sister-in-law, Huie and Beverly Permenter of Logansport, Louisiana; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary and Willie Jarrell of Lufkin, Maglan and Delbert Jarrell of Lufkin, Jo Beth and Ed Dubois of Bridge City; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Roy Permenter; sisters, Daisy Bland and Janice Spruell; and daughter-in-law, Melinda Permenter.

Pallbearers will be Ron Permenter, Dennis Permenter, Wesley Permenter, Michael Dubois, Charlie Ricks, Mike Day, Benny Winder, and Jimmy Raley.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, 2425 Fountain View Drive # 280, Houston, Texas 77057.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.
