Funeral services for Velma Faye Gibbins, 87, of Lufkin will be held Saturday, January 23, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Garland Baker officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park. Mrs. Gibbins was born August 26, 1928 in Teague, Texas to the late William Henry and Talitha Irene (Wilson) Hamilton, and died Sunday, January 17, 2016 in a local nursing home. Mrs. Gibbins had resided in Lufkin since 1991. She worked for many years as office manager for various plumbing and cabinetry businesses in Alvin. Mrs. Gibbins loved bowling, playing 42, and dancing. She was a member of the Victory Assembly of God Church. Survivors include her husband, Carl Gibbins of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, Darrell W. and Paula Hood of Conroe; stepdaughter, Shelly Gibbins of Lufkin; five grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, five sisters and four brothers. Pallbearers will be William Marshall, Brad Hood, Larry Graham, John Drew, Brenden Drew and Turner Herrera. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Parkinson Disease Association, East Texas Chapter, 700 Olympic Plaza, Suite 904, Tyler, Texas 75701. The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon prior to the services.
