Funeral services for Fred S. Franklin, 79, of Lufkin will be held Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Horace Fletcher officiating. Graveside service with military honors will follow in the Simms, Rocky Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Franklin was born January 26, 1936 in Lufkin, Texas to the late Charlie M. and Florence (Fuller) Franklin and died Friday, January 8, 2016 in Lufkin.
Mr. Franklin had resided in Lufkin for most of his life. He retired from the United States Army after 20 years of dedicated service. He was a Vietnam Veteran. Mr. Franklin later went to work for Lufkin Industries in the Trailer Division for 13 years. He was a member of the Lufkin Masonic Lodge #669 A.F. & A.M. and also a member of the Hillcrest Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Verna (Hopson) Franklin of Lufkin; daughters, Charlotte Smith and husband Preston of Baytown, Debra Scruggs of The Woodlands, and Cindy Esthay and husband Frank of League City; step-daughters, Melba Ward and husband Lewis of Livingston and Gaila Collins and husband Floyd of Lufkin; 9 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Hilda Mann of Nacogdoches; sister-in-law, Margie Franklin of Lufkin; and a number of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice in the Pines, 1504 W. Frank Avenue, Lufkin, Texas 75904.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.
