Glenda Ruth (Gray) Cox

May 11, 1940 — January 7, 2016

Funeral services for Glenda Ruth (Gray) Cox, 75, of Lufkin will be held Monday, January 11, 2016 at 3:30 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Jerry Browning officiating. Interment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery. Mrs. Cox was born May 11, 1940 in Lufkin, Texas to the late Reverend Rufus Gerald Gray and Edith Alene (Winthrop) Gray and died Thursday, January 7, 2016 in a local hospice facility. Glenda married Eugene D. Cox on April 25, 1987. She and Ed enjoyed traveling to events and sites in the nearby states of Oklahoma and Louisiana, but her favorite vacation memories were of Montego Bay, Jamaica and Nashville, Tennessee where she met and sang “Coal Miner’s Daughter” with Loretta Lynn. Glenda loved gospel music and would spend countless hours listening and sharing with others as part of her personal testimony. She was the oldest of three sisters and always proud of being in a Godly family. She was very mindful of being a “preacher’s daughter” and her faith never faltered nor diminished. She was a loving wife, homemaker, sister, and aunt. Glenda was a member of Kelty’s Baptist Church. Survivors include her sisters and brothers-in-law, LaNell and Gary Day, Wanda and Troy Smith; nephews and nieces, Gary Day Jr, Steve and Becky Day, Pam and Dean Rowell, Carolyn and Jody Thompson, Kristen and John Weaver, and Jamie Smith; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews; many cousins, including her special cousins, Van “Rip” Kitchens, who often referred to her as “our little angel” and Danny Kitchens. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eugene “Ed” Cox; and nephew, Zach Day. Special thanks to Lufkin Skilled Nursing for the loving care they gave to Glenda. Memorial contributions may be made to Kelty’s Baptist Church, 2402 N. John Redditt Drive, Lufkin, Texas 75904 or Hospice in the Pines, 1504 W. Frank Avenue, Lufkin, Texas 75904. The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
