Shirley Plopper Sitze

Funeral services for Shirley Plopper Sitze, 84, of Lufkin will be held Sunday, January 10, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Cory Page and Brother Steve Cowart officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park with Brother Craig Page officiating. Mrs. Sitze was born July 6, 1931 in Alton, Illinois to the late William Herman and Effie Izola (Richard) Tharp, and died Wednesday, January 6, 2016 in a Houston hospital. Mrs. Sitze had resided in Lufkin since 1977. She worked as a waitress for 39 years, retiring from the restaurant at Holiday Inn in Lufkin. She was an avid bowler, and bowled in leagues and state tournaments for more than 50 years. Mrs. Sitze loved her family, and enjoyed spending time with them and attending her grandchildren’s activities. She was a charter member of Trinity Baptist Church. Survivors include her children and their spouses, Allan Plopper of Houston, Doug and Sis Plopper of Lufkin, Jeff and Penny Plopper of Mt. Enterprise, Verlene Beheler of Mesquite, Terry and Denise Sitze of Mt. Enterprise, and Jerry Sitze of Lufkin; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Frances and Ed Jackman of Apple Valley, California; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 52 years, Roy Franklin Sitze; son, Dana Franklin Sitze; six brothers; and five sisters. Pallbearers will be Jerrod Beheler, Justin Plopper, Doug Plopper, Jr., Shane Plopper, Darren Plopper, Devin Sitze and Zack Plopper. Honorary pallbearers will be her great-grandsons. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Baptist Church, 2909 E. Lufkin Avenue, Lufkin, Texas 75901. The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Saturday evening at the funeral home.
