Glenn Maurice Smith

Funeral services for Glenn Maurice Smith, 91, of Lufkin will be held Monday, January 11, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Aubrey Knox officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park. Mr. Smith was born November 1, 1924 in Moscow, Texas to the late John Wesley and Maude (Sellars) Smith and died Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at the PineCrest Retirement Community in Lufkin. Mr. Smith, formerly of Houston, had resided in Lufkin for the past 24 years. He fought in World War II while proudly serving his country with the United States Navy. He graduated from Texas A&M University in 1949 and remained a proud Aggie till the end. He later went on to retire as a Mechanical Engineer from the Tennessee Gas Transmission Company. Mr. Smith taught English as a Second Language when he first moved to Lufkin. He raised Beef Master Cattle on his local ranch. Mr. Smith was a very family oriented man. He loved having his family all gathered together. He enjoyed traveling the world, hunting, woodworking, and was a master gardener. He volunteered for the Christian Information and Service Center and at one time was a Scout Master for the Boy Scouts of America. Mr. Smith was a member of the Friends of the Ellen Trout Zoo and a member of Lufkin’s First Baptist Church. Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Charla Smith of Katy; son, Robert “Bobby” Smith of Austin; stepdaughters, Pam White of Apple Springs, Tricia Thompson of Timpson, Phyllis Clark of Lufkin, and Paula Odom of Willis; sisters, Rita Johnson of Lufkin and Joyce DuBose of Nederland; brother, C.A. Smith of Lufkin; granddaughter, Carly; great-grandchildren, Kylee and Justin; numerous other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 57 years in 2009, Margaret Anne Smith; second wife of 5 years in 2015, Jacqueline Smith; and son, Charles Smith. The family would like to extend special thanks to staff of Hospice in the Pines and PineCrest for all of the care and compassion they showed for our loved one. The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
