Mrs. Marcelle Collins Canon of Lufkin, Texas passed away in her sleep Sunday, December 27, 2015 at the age of 94.
Marcelle was born to parents James and Wynonia (Gordon) Collins April 9, 1921 in Texarkana, Arkansas. She grew up as the youngest of three and attended Arkansas High School and Henderson State Teachers College. In 1942 she married William Aubrey Canon. The family moved to Lufkin, Texas after living in Texarkana and Diboll for several years. Marcelle was very active in St. Cyprian’s Episcopal Church as well as the Lufkin Historical and Literary Club, along with many other interests and activities. She enjoyed people of all ages and was an honorary grandmother in many families.
Marcelle is survived by her daughter, Rebecca “Beckie” Canon; son, William Aubrey “Judge” Canon, Jr., his significant other Jerri Blackwell Seibert, and her son Zak Seibert, all of San Antonio, Texas; one grandchild, William Aubrey “Will” Canon III and his wife Nell Canon of Santa Monica, California, along with Will’s sister Mallory Petersen Shelton and her husband Barrett Shelton of Dallas; and a favorite niece, Rose Lynn Hunt Russell of Texarkana, Texas.
She is preceded in death by her husband, William Aubrey Canon, Sr.; her sister, Elrhese Collins Hunt; her brother, James Gordon Collins; as well as her parents.
A memorial service will be held in the spring, which was her favorite time of the year, at a date to be announced.
The family requests memorials be made to the Landscaping Project at St. Cyprian’s Episcopal Church, 919 S. John Redditt Drive, Lufkin, Texas 75904.
