Funeral services for Mona S. Byrd, 82, of Lufkin will be held Thursday, December 31, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Blackie Cranford and Reverend Steve Cowart officiating. Interment will follow in the Whitehouse Cemetery. Mrs. Byrd was born February 4, 1933 in Angelina County, Texas to the late Luther Marvin and Carrie Lucy (Morgan) Stubblefield and died Monday, December 28, 2015 at her residence. Mrs. Byrd was a lifelong resident of Lufkin. She was a 1952 graduate of Lufkin High School. She loved her grandchildren and was a member of the Chestnut Drive Baptist Church. She retired after 44 years with the Lufkin Daily News. Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Royce Byrd of Lufkin; daughters and sons-in-law, Suzy and David Harkness of Lufkin, Paula and Randy Allen of Temple, and Patti and Craig Teafatiller of Lufkin; daughter, Penny Byrd of Lufkin; 5 grandchildren, Micah Harkness, Jake Teafatiller, Sam Teafatiller, Alison Thomas, and Tiffany Teafatiller; 2 great-grandchildren, Carter Thomas and Trey Cunningham; sister-in-law, Laquita Weaver of Splendora; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Velma Bounds, Myrtle Weems, Vannie Welch, and Nelda Manley; brothers, Luther Marvin Stubblefield, Jr. and John Ed Stubblefield. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, P.O. Box 630636, Nacogdoches, Texas 75963-063. The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
