Funeral services for Kenneth Earl Holton, Sr., 84, of Lufkin will be held Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Greater Love Tabernacle with Pastor Ronnie Frankens, Reverend Gentry Wilkerson, Reverend Johnny Girardo, and James Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in the Fielders Cemetery.
Mr. Holton was born September 1, 1931 in Baytown, Texas to the late John Fletcher and Rose Marcenia (Greer) Holton and died December 26, 2015 at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.
Mr. Holton had resided in Lufkin for the past 28 years, formerly of Baytown. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was also stationed in Germany and California. He worked for Houston Lighting and Power for 30 years. He was a Sunday School Superintendent and song leader for over 30 years at various churches. He was dearly loved by many and left a lasting impression on those he came in contact with. Mr. Holton was a collector of miniature antique cars, bells, and Star of David crystal glassware. He was lovingly known as “Poppie” by all who knew him, he will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Bertha Holton of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Darenda Kay and Ron Kirkland of Lufkin; daughter, Cheryl Malone of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth Holton, Jr. and Teresa of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Johnny Girardo of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, Steve Holton and Dorothy Taylor of Baytown; sister, Margie Ballew of Houston; grandchildren, Amber, Brandon, Gina, DeeAnn, Amy, Kendra, Joe, Bill, and Tricia; great-grandchildren, Bailey, Ryan, Ronnie, Sidney, Kolby, Kolton, Savannah, Wyatt, Kaytlin, Ayden, Carter, Charlie Jane, Micah, McKinzie, Madyson, Jaci, Tony, Johnathan, William, Jasper, Samantha, and Shanna; great-great-grandchild, Kingsley; numerous step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other family members, and extended family and life-long friends, Sonny and Shirley Hartman and Charles and Pauline Cravey.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Johnni Nelson Scarborough; step-brother, Herbert Holton; step-sister, Hilma Price; mother-in-law, Gladys Holland; and son-in-law, Ronald Malone.
Pallbearers will be Robert Burrous, Ronnie Frankens, Jr., Bryan Frankens, Wes Hartman, Leonard Olive, and Bill Sims.
Honorary pallbearers will be James Johnson, Larry Thornhill, Leonard Grimes, D.L. Weeks, and Terry Grigsby.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Greater Love Tabernacle.
