Mass of Christian Burial for John Michael Ball, Jr., 69, of Lufkin will be held Saturday, December 19, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Fr. Gavin Vaverek officiating. Graveside services with military honors will follow in the Walker Cemetery. Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Friday evening in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel.
Mr. Ball was born March 23, 1946 in Kewanee, Illinois to the late Reesa Mae (Burchette) and John Michael Ball, Sr., and died Tuesday, December 15, 2015 in a local hospice facility.
Mr. Ball had resided in Lufkin for nine years. He served in the U.S. Air Force and then earned a Master’s Degree in Education. He served as Director of Radiology at several hospitals for a total of 40 years, and taught Radiology classes at Angelina College and Lamar University. He served as a Volunteer Fireman and EMT in Harrisburg, North Carolina and Midlothian, Texas. Mr. Ball was a 4th Degree Sir Knight in the Knights of Columbus. In his spare time he loved reading war and mystery novels. Mr. Ball was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Sharron Ball of Lufkin; daughters and son-in-law, Stephanie and Jeremy Teasdale of McKinney and Jennifer Ball of Lufkin; grandson, Ethan Teasdale of Wisconsin; parents-in-law, Orren and Alice Schmidt of Lufkin; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Douglas and Shelly Schmidt of Monroe, Louisiana, Ann and Elgin Lary of Longview, and Vicki Laird of Lufkin; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Patricia Gray; and brother-in-law, Billy Laird.
Pallbearers will be Jeremy Teasdale, Doug Schmidt, Christopher Schmidt, Eugene Rusch, Carl Patton and Jose Aguilar.
Honorary pallbearer will be Ethan Teasdale.
