Marjorie Gertrude "Poole" Newman

Funeral services for Marjorie Gertrude (Poole) Newman, 84, of Lufkin will be held Saturday, December 19, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Herty Baptist Church with Reverend Van Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.

Mrs. Newman was born January 21, 1931 in Port Arthur, Texas to the late John Albert and Thenia Mae (Phillips) Poole and passed away on Sunday, December 13, 2015 in a local hospital.

Mrs. Newman was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. She graduated from Lufkin High School in 1947. She attended Satterwhite Commercial College and graduated from Angelina Junior College with an Associate of Education. She was a charter member of Herty Baptist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher, choir member, VBS teacher, and recording secretary.

Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Joel Talmadge Newman of Lufkin; daughter, Charlotte Ann Newman of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Barbara Jo and Jim Fox of Lake Kiowa, Texas with their three daughters, Melissa Jo Fox and fiance Chris Moses, Cheryl Lynn Fox, and Whitney Ann Fox and fiance Reid Anderson; sister and brother-in-law, Dean and Buddy Hamilton of Kerrville; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Carlton and Carol Newman of Austin, Gene Newman and Florence Newman both of Lufkin; also many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by nephews, Craig Denum and George Newman; brother-in-law, John Newman; and mother-in-law, Minnie Sprayberry Newman.

Pallbearers will be Wayne Morton, Wyman Morton, Danny Morton, David Morton, Bob Castleberry, and Bubba Loggins.

Honorary pallbearers will be Deacons of the Herty Baptist Church.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m Friday evening at the Carroway Funeral Home.
