Sally Jo Lee

April 11, 1929 — December 11, 2015

Graveside services for Sally Jo Lee,86, of Edmond, Oklahoma will be held Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. in the Gann Cemetery with Jonathan Nixon and Denton Metts officiating.

Sally Jo Lee went to be with Jesus on December 11, 2015. Her life on earth began April 11, 1929, on a farm in the Piney Woods of Angelina County, Texas. She was born to Haywood and Winnie (Denton) Metts.

She was the oldest of three children: Charles Thomas Metts, who married Shirley Allen of Lufkin, Texas; and Margie Ann who married Charles F. Skinner. Sally attended Central public schools and also high school in Clarksville, Texas.

Sally married Gerald Kent Lee in Clarksville, Texas, on June 20, 1948. From that union were born two daughters, Janet Lee Nixon of Edmond, Oklahoma, and Rebecca Lee. Her husband, Kent, passed away shortly before their 50th anniversary. They were members of the Central Church of Christ.

In Dallas, Texas, Sally was an active member of the Priceless Personality Club, and was chosen as Sweetheart for 1963. From that organization she gained and passed on many Christ-like traits to her daughters. Sally was known for her love of elderly people, and demonstrated her affection for the shut-ins and the sick with visits and baked goods. She was known for her homemade chocolate pies. She held onto that same caring love in her senior years.

Sally spent her life as a homemaker, devoting many hours to sewing clothing for her family. She loved to shop, especially with good friends.

One of Sally’s great loves which she shared with Kent was antiques. (Kent would say “he” was one of the antiques.) They attended numerous auctions and began an antique business in Lincoln, Nebraska, with Carl and Betty Browning. The women shopped and sold; while the men refinished furniture. This was one of the best times of their lives.

Her grandchildren are Jonathan (and Mindy) Nixon; Katie Rebecca Nixon Hellbusch. Great-grandchildren are Corbin and Cooper Nixon and Weston and Wyatt Hellbusch.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her daughter Rebecca, her sister Margie and both parents.
