Carla Jeanette (Lewis) Poage

September 12, 1978 — December 4, 2015

Funeral services for Carla Jeanette (Lewis) Poage, 37, of Amarillo will be held Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Clawson Assembly of God Church, with a reception to follow. Brother Cary Modisett and Brother David Hunt will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Carla’s life.

Carla was born September 12, 1978 in Lufkin, Texas to Dr. Carlton and Nina Kay (Davis) Lewis. She died peacefully Friday, December 4, 2015 in Lufkin. She graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University in 2003 with a degree in Biology. She married Dr. Frederick Poage in 2003.

Carla defined what it truly means to be a servant of God. Her life was dedicated to serving others. She became a Christian and received her baptism in the Holy Ghost as a teenager at church camp, which she always stated as the epochal event in her life. She began her diligent pursuit of God’s will in her life, and never wavered. She attended different schools growing up as her father completed medical school and residency, culminating in her attending Stephen F. Austin State University. There, she met her husband, Dr. Frederick Poage, in January 2003. This was the beginning of a whirlwind of events for her - becoming engaged in May, married in July, and expecting their firstborn in June 2004. With the birth of Bryton, she transformed into a mother unlike any other - a woman who loved her son with the love of Christ, and a fervor to raise him to be a servant of God. Throughout the next 4 years God placed in her a love for other people, adopting the motto “Love God, Love People”. Her second child, Brodyn, was born in 2008, making her the mother of the “two cutest boys in the world.” She was ever the unwavering advocate for her husband, throughout their move to Fort Worth for him to attend medical school, then to Amarillo for his residency. She made you feel special and the most important person in the world. She was always encouraging and full of life. She was all about her family. Her love reached beyond just her family and into the hearts of anyone who came to know her. She lived the perfect example of a lady and Christ-like person. Her life was an example of overcoming obstacles through love. Her faith impacted her husband, her children, her parents, her students, her nurses, her doctors, and all who had the opportunity to get to know her.

Carla is survived by her husband, Dr. Frederick Poage; children, Bryton and Brodyn Poage; parents, Dr. Carlton and Nina Lewis of Pollok, Texas; sister, Stephanie Floyd of Pollok, Texas; sister, Michelle Harvill and husband Cody of Lufkin, Texas; grandmothers, Geneva Davis and Grace Varnado, both of Pollok, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
