Phyllis (Holmes) McGlashen, 82, of Lufkin died Monday, November 16, 2015 at Woodland Heights Medical Center. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home. Memorial services will be held at a later date.
Mrs. McGlashen was born July 31, 1933 in Portland, Maine to the late Frederick Melvin and Anna Louise (Tyson) Holmes. She had resided in Lufkin since 2011 and had previously lived in Huntington for 20 years.
Mrs. McGlashen was a very active member of Huntington First Baptist Church and loved helping in any way she could. She loved her family and was always there for them. She never met a stranger and was a friend to everyone. She always tried to make life easy for those around her. Mrs. McGlashen touched the hearts of many people. She was very organized and enjoyed crafting, painting, cooking, baking, and playing the piano. She loved to travel and see the world, and enjoyed camping and fishing.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Jill and Steve Oates of Hudson and Karen and Richard Wilkinson of Escondido, California; grandchildren, Steven Myles Nickens of Hudson, Erin Dawn Nickens Sturges and husband Craig of Fountain Valley, California, Michael Dean Nickens and wife Veronica of Fort Morgan, Colorado, Amber Rae Nickens Warren and husband Eric of Evans, Georgia, Benjamin Thomas Horton and wife Jennifer of Hudson, Aaron Oates and Alexandra Oates, both of Tyler; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Myles McGlashen; and a granddaughter.
