Funeral services for Evelyn Loree Amerine Philmon, 93, of Lufkin will be held Friday, October 30, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Randy Brown and Brother Jimmy Hedges officiating. Interment will follow in the Pine Grove Cemetery in the Barnum Community in Polk County, Texas. Mrs. Philmon was born December 23, 1921 in Barnes, Texas (Polk County) to the late Richard Lee and Cora Colita (Harrison) Amerine and went to be with the Lord on October 27, 2015 after a brief illness at St. Catherine’s Village in Madison, Mississippi where she had moved to be closer to her children. Mrs. Philmon graduated in 1939 from Chester High School in Tyler County, Texas. During her early years at home she worked at the W.T. Carter Company Store until she married her husband, Doyle O. Philmon in 1942. After raising her children she worked and retired from Howard’s Discount Stores in Lufkin, Texas. She was a devout Christian and faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church, in Lufkin. She loved her Lord, her church, her Sunday school class and teacher, and gospel music. Survivors include her sons, Doyle O. Philmon, Jr. and wife Tonya of Parks, Arkansas and Jerry Lee Philmon of Madison, Mississippi; grandsons, Doyle O. (Trey) Philmon III, Charles Philmon, Max Philmon and Winston Philmon; great grandchildren, Alexis Philmon, Allen Philmon, Cora Philmon and Lilah Philmon; sister-in-law, Opal Handley of Baytown, Texas; several nephews, nieces, and numerous other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Doyle Oscar Philmon; parents; brothers, Earl Amerine, Carroll Amerine, and Clarence Amerine; sister and brother-in-law, Thelma and Waskom Havis; sister, Susie Griffin; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Amerine and Bonnie Amerine. Pallbearers will be Trey Philmon, Charles Philmon, Max Philmon, Allen Philmon, John Griffin, and Keith Anderson. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Amerine, and the deacons and members of Calvary Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made to Calvary Baptist Church, 516 Montrose St, Lufkin, TX 75901. The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Friday morning at the funeral home.
