Amy Yates

Funeral services for Amy Margaret Yates, 22, of Flint, Texas, formerly of Lufkin, will be held Friday, October 23, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. in the Worship Center at First United Methodist Church in Lufkin, TX. Dr. Jerome Brimmage and David Runnels will officiate. A reception will follow in the Worship Center.

Amy was born in Lufkin, Texas on May 18, 1993 to Stephen Yates and the late Karla Smithhart Yates. She passed away on Monday, October 19, 2015 in Flint.

Amy was currently a communications major attending the University of Texas at Tyler and on the staff of the school newspaper. She was employed at State Farm in Tyler. A summa cum laude graduate of Lufkin High School in 2011, Amy was a National Merit Commended Scholar, a member of the Panther Pride, National Honor Society, yearbook staff and President of the Diamond Dolls. Active at First United Methodist Church, she was involved in the youth group, UM Army, STORM weekend and Girls of Grace.

Survivors include her father, Stephen Yates; sister, Abby Yates; grandparents, Patti and Claude Smithhart; aunt and uncle, Dana and Kevin Smithhart; uncle, Darrell Yates, Jr.; aunt, Sheryl Uresti; a number of beloved cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother and by her maternal grandmother, Margaret Smithhart and paternal grandparents, Darrell E. and Shirley Yates.
