Roscoe Ivy, Jr.

Funeral services for Roscoe Ivy, Jr. 93, of Corrigan will be held Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother C.G. “Buster” Grigg and Bro. Rick Williams officiating. Interment will follow in the Glendale Cemetery.

Roscoe was born September 24, 1922 To Roscoe W. Ivy, Sr. and Katie Slaughter Ivy in Lufkin, Texas and died Friday, October 16, 2015.
Mr. Ivy grew up in Lufkin, where he played football and ran track. He was the ultimate Panther fan. After graduation, he attended SFA until the war became apparent. He left college and attended a metal riveting school and enlisted in the Army Air Corp on Oct. 28, 1942. On Nov. 4, 1944 he married Martha Jo Boynton while he was still in the service. Shortly after their first child was born he was discharged and returned to Lufkin. While in the Air Corp, he played football and baseball. In the late forties and early fifties he delivered mail in Lufkin, and he knew all the people by name. At night and any other time he was playing baseball. He moved away and took a job as an insurance adjuster for GAB, but his love of sports remained. Roscoe moved on to golf and accomplished the feat of a hole in one as well as shooting his age of 79. He refereed for the Southwest Conference and Southland Conference games for 25 years. Upon his return to Lufkin he opened his own insurance adjustment business until his wife’s health failed her. Once he closed the business he devoted his time to the community. He served as president of the Lufkin Country Club, a greeter at Woodland Heights Medical Center, popcorn popper at Memorial Medical Center, and a courier for Hospice in the Pines.
He was a member of the Lufkin Masonic Lodge #669 A.F. & A.M. and Sharon Shrine Temple in Tyler. He also was a member of the First Baptist Church in Corrigan.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Ivy of Corrigan; sister, LaJune Bradley; daughters and sons-in-law, Joellen and Mike Bell of Bedford, Jeanne and Bob Flint of Irvine, California; son and daughter-in-law, David and Trish Ivy of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; step-children, Jim Bob Rogers, Pat Orr, and Sue and Joe Beelman. He was blessed with six grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Martha Jo; brother, Jack Ivy; and brother in law, Franklin Bradley.

Pallbearers will be David Bradley, Randy Bradley, Blake Latson, Jim Bob Rogers, Jack Ivy, and Charles Bell.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
