Funeral services for Ruth Brandenburg, 80, of Lufkin will be held Saturday, October 3, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Lamar Denby officiating. Interment will follow in the Whitehouse Cemetery. Mrs. Brandenburg was born March 31, 1935 in Carthage, Texas to the late Tommy and Irene (Weaver) Phillips and passed away Wednesday, September 30, 2015 in Huntington. Mrs. Brandenburg had resided in Lufkin for over forty years. She was one of seven children. She married William Brandenburg and together they raised five boys. The family moved home to Texas from California in 1972, and Ruth, never being one to relax, went on to earn her real estate license and became a real estate broker, after the last son graduated high school. Of Ruth’s many growing achievements, the jewel in her crown was the time she spent as the Director of the Lufkin Civic Center, of which she served 14 years. It was in this position that she came into contact with most of Angelina County and became a true friend to the community. Besides enjoying camping and fishing, Ruth truly enjoyed spending time with family, including her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. First and foremost, Ruth was a dedicated mother. Her greatest joy was telling anyone that would listen, how proud she was of her wonderful sons and their accomplishments. Strength is defined as the quality or state of being strong, of mental and moral power, a force of vigor, firmness or courage. These qualities define Ruth Brandenburg: a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt. Survivors include her husband of sixty-three years, William H. Brandenburg of Lufkin; sons, Keith Brandenburg of Zavalla, Jay Brandenburg of Huntington, Dave Brandenburg of Houston, and Bill Brandenburg and wife Eva of Lufkin; ten grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles and Ruby Phillips of Houston, Curtis and Barbara Phillips of Tyler, Albert and Kathy Phillips of Houston; sister, Margaret Halpin of Longview; and numerous other family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her son, Tony Brandenburg; daughters-in-law, Sheri Brandenburg and Cathy Brandenburg; brothers, Bruce and Bob Phillips. Pallbearers will be John Cole Brandenburg, John David Brandenburg, Brandon Brandenburg, William Brandenburg, Wade Fitzgerald, and Kyle Willis. The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
