Funeral services for Raela Edmons Wright, 56, of Zavalla will be held Monday, September 21, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at the Zavalla First Baptist Church with Dr. Jacob Fitzgerald and Pastor Stephen Forrest officiating. Interment will follow in the Concord Cemetery.
Mrs. Wright was born February 26, 1959 in Nacogdoches, Texas to John Ray and Carolyn Jane Baker Edmons and died Thursday, September 17, 2015 at her residence surrounded by her family.
Mrs. Wright was a lifetime resident of Zavalla. She was a third and fourth grade teacher at Zavalla ISD for the last twenty years and was also a member of the Zavalla First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. Raela was also the starting point guard of the first women’s basketball team at Angelina College. She was a graduate of Stephen F. Austin State University and the Methodist Hospital School of Medical Technology.
Survivors include her husband of thirty-two years, Keith Wright of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, Shane and Rhonda Wright of Lufkin; daughter, Kayla Wright of College Station; parents, John Ray and Carolyn Jane Edmons of Zavalla; niece, Chaney Thomasson of College Station; sister, Rhonda Edmons of Conroe; aunt, Charlotte Edmons of Port Arthur; aunts and uncles, Patty and Marion Neill and J.W. and Sarah Clifton all of Nacogdoches; numerous other relatives and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Reba Edmons Thomasson.
Pallbearers will be Steve Wright, David Wright, Aaron Wright, Steve Floyd, Baker Clifton, and Shane Neill.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Zavalla First Baptist Church, 1034 E Main St, Zavalla, Texas 75980.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
