Funeral services for Lester Lowery, 89, of Huntington will be held Monday, September 7, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Lamar Denby and Mark Ivey officiating. Interment will follow in the Treadwell Cemetery. Mr. Lowery was born August 1, 1926 in Nacogdoches County, Texas to the late Lucy (Wells) and Ephriam Lowery and died September 4, 2015 at his residence. Mr. Lowery resided in Huntington all of his life. He was a World War II Veteran who served his country in the United States Army. He owned and operated saw mills and built the first chip mill in East Texas. He was an original founder of Huntington State Bank and later acquired Texas State Bank, where he currently served on the board. A member of the Highway Baptist Church, he was a soft spoken man who worked to better his community by helping to organize Four Way Water, Huntington Little League as well as supporting many other local causes. Survivors include his wife of sixty-four years, Othal (Russell) Lowery of Huntington; sons and daughters-in-law, Joe and Jackie Lowery and Mark and Brenda Lowery, all of Lufkin; son-in-law, Paul Clark of Lufkin; grandchildren and spouses, John Mark and Whitney Lowery, Clarke Lowery and Taylor Lowery, Leslie Clark, Austin and Sarah Clark, Matt Lowery, Courtney and Bret Gould, Brad and Mandy Hamilton; one great-granddaughter, Elise Lowery; brother, Giles Lowery; brother and sister-in-law, Buddy and Tommie Jan Lowery; and sister, Bonnie Haney all of Huntington; numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and by his daughter, Donna Marice Lowery Clark. Pallbearers will be John Mark Lowery, Clarke Lowery, Austin Clark, Matt Lowery, James Wells, and Rex Lowery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Highway Baptist Church Building Fund, 212 S Main St, Huntington, Texas 75949 The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
