Funeral services for Roger E. Mayes, 63, of Huntington will be held Sunday, August 23, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in the Huntington Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Larry Innerarity and Brother Joseph Innerarity officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in the Rocky Hill (Sims) Cemetery.
Mr. Mayes was born February 20, 1952 in Lufkin, Texas to Charline (Veteto) and the late, Arlon E. Mayes and died Thursday, August 20, 2015 in Lufkin.
Mr. Mayes had resided in Huntington all his life. He served with the United States Marines from 1970-1974 and served in the Vietnam War. He worked as a machinist for Lufkin Industries for forty years. Mr. Mayes loved working with metal, especially making knives. He loved his family and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Teresa (Tucker) Mayes of Huntington; son and daughter-in-law, Jeremy and Stephanie Mayes of Huntington; son, Willie Mayes of Albuquerque, New Mexico; step-son, Ronnie Cox of Huntsville; Step-son and daughter-in-law, Lance and Alice Cox of Baytown; eleven grandchildren; mother and step-father, Charline and Sammy Kirkland of Huntington; sisters and brothers-in-law, Judy and Jack Kirkland of Lufkin and Sandy and Bill Taylor of Tyler; numerous other nieces, nephews, and family members.
He was preceded in death by his father, Arlon E. Mayes; grandparents, Charlie and Abbie Veteto and Willie and Ellie Mayes.
Pallbearers will be Mike Jones, Buddy Jones, John Taylor, Royce Tucker, Randy Tucker, and Jim Burrell.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8 p.m. Saturday evening at the Huntington funeral home.
