Funeral services for Murdelle C. Thomas,95, of Lufkin will be held Monday, August 24, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Roy Hall and Brother Harrell Slone officiating. Interment will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the Sand Prairie Cemetery in Normangee. Mrs. Thomas was born March 16, 1920 in Madisonville, Texas to the late Carrie Elmyra (Barker) and William Acey Collins and died Thursday, August 20, 2015 in Lufkin. Mrs. Thomas had resided in Lufkin for 12 years. She was a former resident of Normangee and Huntsville. She was a librarian at the Sam Houston State University and taught at the Alvin I.S.D. Mrs. Thomas loved gardening, fishing, bird watching, and she loved her dog, Sunshine. She was a Past Grand Worthy Matron in the Eastern Star and was a member of the Lancewood Baptist Church. Survivors include her sister, Maurice (Mrs. D.H.) Walker of Lufkin; niece, Delrice Mangrum and husband, Royce of Lufkin; great nieces and nephews, Dena Niosi and husband, Lorenzo Cordero of Lufkin, Mark Mangrum and wife Jennifer of Lufkin; great-great-nieces and nephews, Ashley and Cade Tullos and their children, Rhilynn and Coulson, Lauren and Kendall Smith and their children, Kayden and Kenly, Kamron and Lindsey Niosi and their children, Michael and Hunter, Alexis Cordero, Justin Mangrum, Madison Mangrum, and Lauren Loeffler; along with many other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Thomas; brother-in-law, D.H. Walker; her parents; and Sunshine, her beloved dog. Memorial contributions may be made to Lancewood Baptist Church, 253 Bethlehem Road, Lufkin, Texas 75904. The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
