Funeral services for Elmer V. “Sonny” Spears, 90, of Huntington will be held Sunday, August 16, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Huntington with Brother M.H. Shubert, Brother Bret Cooley and Brother Mike Henson officiating. Graveside services with military honors will follow in the Huntington Oddfellows Cemetery.
Mr. Spears was born August 1, 1925 in Village Mills, Texas to the late William Isaac and Lillie (Collier) Spears, and died Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at his residence.
Mr. Spears had resided in Huntington for 33 years. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was a welder for the Texaco Refinery for 34 years. He was a member of the Etoile United Pentecostal Church.
Survivors include his wife, Gerline Spears of Huntington; daughter, Kathie Treadway of Colonial Heights, Virginia; sister-in-law, Irene Jewel of Breaux Bridge, Louisiana; special nephew, Michael Ener and wife Susie of Huntington; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and three sisters.
Pallbearers will be the U.S. Marine Corps League Detachment #1362.
Honorary pallbearer and fellow Marine is Ann Womack.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Etoile United Pentecostal Church Building Fund, 2315 State Highway 103, Etoile, Texas 75944.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Saturday evening at the funeral home.
