Funeral services for Dale Andrew Nicholson Jr., 79, of Lufkin will be held Monday, August 10, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church with Brother Gary Forrest and Dr. John Wood officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.

Mr. Nicholson was born August 6, 1936 in Shreveport, Louisiana to the late Marion (Reese) and Dale Andrew Nicholson, Sr. and died Friday, August 7, 2015 in Lufkin.

Mr. Nicholson had resided in Lufkin for 45 years. He retired as a Highway Patrol Sergeant in August, 1996 after serving 36 years with the Texas Department of Public Safety. He was stationed in Houston, Carthage, Alice, and Lufkin during his career with the Highway Patrol. He graduated from Sam Houston State University and taught Law Enforcement classes at Angelina College in Lufkin. He was active in Lufkin Youth Baseball for over a decade. Mr. Nicholson loved to read, play dominos, work cross word puzzles, play on his Kindle, take care of the yard, hunt, fish, and walk his dog “Mickey”. He was affectionately known throughout the neighborhood as his kids were growing up as “Sid”. He played basketball with the neighborhood boys. Mr. Nicholson was a “father-figure” to many. He was a member of the Parkview Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and a greeter, and was a member of the Victory Sunday School Class.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Patsy; daughter, Dala Burk and husband, Coy Dale of Decatur; sons, Pat Nicholson and wife, Denise of Lufkin, Troy Nicholson and wife, Brigitta of Central, and Bret Nicholson and wife, Sondra of Holland; twelve grandchildren, Troi Lynn Pearson and husband, Cody of Lufkin, Justin Burk and wife, Hannah of Atlanta, Katie Nicholson and fiancée, Justin Langley of Bryan, Morgan Nicholson of Katy, Mattie Nicholson of Lufkin, Sierra Peck and husband, Brayden of Decatur, Cody, Zachary, and Tara Nicholson of Central, Reese, Kyle, and Raena Nicholson of Holland; six great-grandchildren, Bralyn, Sayler, Rylan, and Kanyon Peck of Decatur, Wyatt and Hadlyn Pearson of Lufkin; brothers, Richard Nicholson and wife Ladelle of Snyder, Charles Nicholson of Rodessa, Louisiana; step-sister, Anne Weatherby of Byron, California; step-brother, Don Brashier of Oakley, California; aunt, Frances Gentry of Waskom; one nephew, three nieces, and five cousins.

He was preceded in death by parents.

Pallbearers will be Rocky Thigpen, Tom Selman, Dewain Brazil, Jerry Collins, Gary Strickland, and Burl Ivy.

Honorary pallbearers will be George Conner, P.C. Page, All retired DPS Troopers, Randy Martin, James Sheffield, Richard Murphy, and Robert Powers.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
