Memorial services for Walter “Walt” Smith, Jr., 63, of Lufkin will be held Thursday, August 6, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Carlos Martinez officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home. Mr. Smith was born November 24, 1951 in Clearwater, Florida to the late Betty Jean (Trull) and Walter Harlston Smith, Sr., and died Wednesday, July 29, 2015 in a local hospice facility. Formerly of Florida, Mr. Smith had resided in Lufkin for 21 years. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was a driver for All Lanes Trucking Co. Mr. Smith was an avid motorcyclist and preferred Harley Davidson. He was a member of the Thomas Crossing United Pentecostal Church. Survivors include his wife, Donnie Smith of Lufkin; sons and daughters-in-law, Stephen and Jessica Cox of Hudson and Willie Aubrey and Gina Cox of Valdosta, Georgia; daughters and son-in-law, Frances Taylor of Lufkin, Jennifer and Bill Bossardt, and Shannon Villegas, all of Holiday, Florida; 11 grandchildren; sister, Sharon Smith of Largo, Florida; his Pomeranian, Splash; and many friends and co-workers who were his caregivers throughout his recent illness. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice in the Pines, 1504 W. Frank Avenue, Lufkin, Texas 75904. The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. Thursday afternoon prior to the services.
