Henry D. Steel

Graveside services for Henry D. Steel, 90, of Apple Springs will be held Tuesday, August 4, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. in the Bennett Cemetery in Trinity County with Reverend Horace Fletcher officiating.

Mr. Steel was born March 21, 1925 in the Arbor Community of Houston County, Texas to the late Elijah and Artie (Ponder) Steel, and passed away Saturday, August 1, 2015 at his home, surrounded by loved ones.

Mr. Steel served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After his service he married the love of his life, LaNell Vick Steel, June 26, 1947 and settled in the Apple Springs area. He was an honest, hard working, and loving man who instilled these qualities in his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Mr. Steel worked as a self-employed logger from the age of 15 until retirement at the age of 76. After retirement he enjoyed spending time outdoors, fishing and gardening with his family. He was a member of the Apple Springs Baptist Church.

He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, LaNell, who cared for him until the end in their home; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Roy Lyn Madden; son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Judy Steel; granddaughters and spouses, Kristie and Jesse Moody and Shandi and Michael Baird; grandson, Danylyn Madden; great-grandsons, Stephen Baird, Cody Baird, Dilyn Baird, and Brandon Moody; great-granddaughters, Grace Madden and Madalyn Baird; cherished niece, Stacy Barker; loving daughter #2, Kathy Braden; along with numerous other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Clifford, Paul, Johnny and Dorothy.

Pallbearers will be Danny Steel, Roy Lyn Madden, Richard Gentry, Danylyn Madden, Michael Baird, Jesse Moody, Kevin Fry, and Randall Fry.

Honorary pallbearers will be Stephen Baird, Cody Baird, and Dilyn Baird.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Apple Springs Baptist Church, P.O. Box 22, Apple Springs, Texas 75926 or the Bennett Cemetery Association, 227 Max Due Road, Groveton, Texas 75845.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Tuesday morning prior to the services.
