Robert Edward Quillin

Funeral services for Robert Edward Quillin, 67, of Lufkin will be held Monday, July 27, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Patrick Church with Fr. Gavin Vaverek officiating. Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories.
Bob was born June 4, 1948 in Lufkin Texas and died Thursday, July 23, 2015 at CHI St. Luke’s Memorial Hospital of a sudden illness.
Bob had resided in Lufkin most of his life. He was a Lufkin High School Class of 1966 graduate, a 1970 graduate of Stephen F. Austin with a B.S. in History, and later obtained a M.Ed. in Educational Administration there. He was Assistant Director for the East Texas Adult Education Co-op from 1978 to 1999, and retired as Director of Adult Education for Angelina College after 12 years. He helped hundreds of adult students to obtain a GED, become literate, and learn English as a Second Language. He was a former Kiwanis Club member and recently served on the Board of the Mosaic Center. He was a member of TCABE, TALAE, the Texas State Historical Association, and the East Texas Historical Association.
Bob was a passionate book collector and reader. His grandchildren were the light of his life, and they remember him as a wonderful storyteller. He enjoyed history, especially Texas history, reading, travel, geology and geography. He was always known for his wit and his smile.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 45 years, Angela of Lufkin; son, Will Quillin and wife Niki, of Lufkin; daughters, Kathy Jordan and husband Brad, of Thousand Oaks, California and Mary Tanksley and husband Brent, of Lufkin; Grandchildren, Brandon, Aaron, and Lyndsay Quillin of Latexo, Amy Ballard of Hallsville, Chesney and Brylie Quillin of Lufkin, Ava and Lyla Jordan of Thousand Oaks, California, and Parker and Isabella Tanksley of Lufkin; sister-in-law, Mayellen Bresie; brothers-in-law, Don Bresie and wife Maria of Round Rock, and Cary Bresie and wife Brenda of Orange; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Katherine (Holiday) Quillin; and step-mother, Hazel (Kilgore) Quillin.
A rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 26, 2015 at Carroway Funeral Home with visitation following from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.
