Funeral services for Eva Mae Polk, 95, of Lufkin, will be held Friday, July 17, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Elwyn M. Gipson Memorial Chapel located in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park, where interment will follow. Officiating the service will be special speaker, cousin and friend, Annette Lee of Lufkin.
Mrs. Polk was born on September 27, 1919 in Lufkin, Texas to Charlie and Lilly Mae (Blackburn) Willmon and left this life on July 14, 2015 in Hemphill, Texas, where she had resided at Mount Moriah Health and Rehab Facility since February of 2014.
Mrs. Polk was a lifelong member of First Assembly of God Family Church in Lufkin. She was a very caring, loving homemaker and adored wife of J. M. “Marcus” Polk, who was her inseparable soulmate for 73 years. She was a precious mom to two sons who cherished her love and guidance throughout their lives. Five grandchildren and three step-grandchildren lovingly called her “Mamaw Polk,” and she had several great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends who will all deeply miss her and cherish her memory always.
Survivors include son, Charles Henry Polk of Amelia Island, Florida; son, James Preston Polk and wife Wanda of Hemphill, Texas (previously of Lufkin); grandsons, John Marcus Polk and Anthony James Polk, both of Orlando, Florida, James Eric Polk and wife Jodie of Etoile, Texas, Charles Landon Polk and wife Shanna of Lufkin; granddaughter, Lauren Olivia Polk of Mooresville, NC; and step grandchildren, Ashley and Brittney Gee of Huntington. Great grandchildren are Holly and Emily Polk, Tyler and Dillon Polk, OttieMae and LaFe Venegas and Addison and Braxley Smith.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Polk was preceded in death by her husband, J.M. “Marcus” Polk; first born son, John Henry Polk who died in infancy; brothers, James Willmon and Charles Floyd Willmon; sisters, Elizabeth Smith, Frankie Ashworth, and Ora Monroe; and step grandson, Chris Gee.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones to the visitation from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Friday at the Elwyn M. Gipson Memorial Chapel prior to the 2:00 p.m. service.
