Lewis Temple

Funeral services for Lewis Temple, 91, of Lufkin will be held Thursday, June 18, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin with Pastor Troy Christmas officiating. Interment will follow in Walker Cemetery. Mr. Temple was born September 2, 1923 in Center, Texas to the late Leona (Walton) and Wesley R. Temple. He died Monday, June 15, 2015 in a Lufkin hospice facility. Mr. Temple was a retired stock prep supervisor for Champion International following 38 years of service. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II. Mr. Temple had resided in Redland for more than 50 years, and attended Redland Baptist Church. He loved to fish and to farm, and loved playing solitaire. Survivors include his wife, Helen Temple of Lufkin; stepdaughter and husband, Mary Ann and Dan Grdinich of Cut & Shoot; grandchildren, Lewis Temple and wife Chrissy of Redland and Elaine Williams of Houston; step-grandchildren, Lindsay Burks and husband Peter of Corrigan, Kenna McMullen and husband Brad of Apple Springs, Ralph David Rushing, Jr. and wife Becky of Sheridan, Indiana, Mary Catherine Herron and husband Donny of Conroe, Melissa Ann Travis and husband Doug of Conroe; twelve great-grandchildren; fifteen great-great-grandchildren; brother, Paul Temple of Mansfield, Louisiana; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jim Temple; infant daughter, Alice Temple; brothers, Earl Temple and Harold Temple; and sister, Alice Temple Cates. Pallbearers will be Everett Thornhill, Jr., Terry Thornhill, Jr., Peter Burks, Spencer Kirk, Carey Griffith, and Brad McMullen. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice in the Pines, 1504 West Frank Ave., Lufkin, Texas 75904. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
