Services to celebrate the life of Beth Dodd Hopson of Lufkin will be held Saturday, June 13, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Gary Forrest officiating. Interment will follow in the Berry Cemetery in the community of Moffett, just outside Lufkin. A resident of Lufkin, Texas all her life, Golden Beth Dodd Hopson entered life eternal Thursday, June 11, 2015 in the place of her birth, spending her last days surrounded by those she cherished. She was the first child of Verda Laura (Gandy) and John Dodd, early residents of Angelina County. Beth was eight-six years of age. Born September 2, 1928, Beth married her childhood sweetheart, James Hopson, the day before her seventeenth birthday, and together they owned and operated Hopson Electric Service on Raguet Street until they retired. She and James were parents to James Duane and Laura Beth, and while she was a successful business woman, her heart was always turned first to her home and family. Her life was defined by a servant’s spirit born of her personal relationship to Christ, and she lived out her faith in a way that drew others to her. As a result, she had scores of friends who loved her, and they represented every walk of life and spanned all ages. Her name, “Golden Beth”, fit her exceedingly well, for her friendship, her kindness, and her reputation was indeed “golden” in every way. She was a faithful member of Parkview Baptist church in Lufkin. Beth is survived by her children, Duane Hopson and Laura and Dennis Dickerson, all of Lufkin. Her grandchildren are Jason Duane Hopson and wife Rivers of Lufkin, Laura Ann Waynick and husband Darren of Howell, Michigan, Lauren Paige Wieser and husband Keith of Pullman, Washington, and Rhett Dickerson and wife Rachel of Sugar Land. Great-grandchildren are Lacy, Heather, and James Davis and Phoenix Waynick of Howell, Michigan, Karson, Karis, and Karter Wieser of Pullman, Washington, and Scarlett Dickerson of Sugar Land, Texas. She had many treasured nieces and nephews as well. James, her husband of fifty-two years, preceded her in death in 2004, and Beth was the last surviving sibling in her family. Her sisters were Violet Dodd Lavender and Sue Dodd Adams Thompson. Her brother was John Jefferson Dodd, Jr. Johnny Futch, Dennis Dickerson, Rhett Dickerson, Jason Hopson, Jerry Adams, David Adams, Milton Adams, and Carl Hatway will be her pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Dewis Tillery, Donald Wayne Gandy, Billy Charles Gandy, Jimmy Gandy, Ross Neil, Jack Warner, Richard Murphy, Jack Hearne, James Sheffield, and Dale Nicholson. Beth’s family wishes to thank the staff at Castle Pines for the kindness, care and consideration given to her in the several years preceding her death. Memorials in her honor may be directed to Parkview Baptist Church, 111 Parkview Circle, Lufkin, Texas 75904, or the Christian charity of choice. The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home. Memories and condolences may be added, and live webcasting of the services may be viewed at www.carrowayfuneralhome.com. Carroway Funeral Home, Lufkin, directors.
