Bennie Ferguson

Funeral services for Bennie Ferguson, 85, of Lufkin will be held Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Charles M. Roberts and Reverend Jeff Moats officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park. Mr. Ferguson was born August 14, 1929 in Angelina County, Texas to the late Reed and Evie Bell (Robertson) Ferguson, and died Saturday, June 6, 2015 in a local hospice facility. Mr. Ferguson was a lifetime resident of Lufkin. He retired from the Southland Paper Mill (Champion International at his retirement) following 32 years of employment, and was also a rancher. He loved his cattle. Mr. Ferguson ran the Biloxi Creek Hunting Club in Angelina County. He was a Deacon at Denman Avenue Baptist Church where he had been a member since 1974, and taught the Kingsmen Sunday school class. Survivors include his wife, Jean Roberts Ferguson of Lufkin; daughters and sons-in-law, Wanda and Larry Smith of Nacogdoches, Brenda and Bubba Hartman of Bryan, Linda and Eddie Ditsworth of Gardner, Kansas, and Debbie and Sam Sumpter of Graham; stepson, Kevin Roberts of Idaho Falls, Idaho; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brother, Lewis Ferguson; and a number of other relatives. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his daughter, Bennie Jean Lightner; and granddaughter, Falicity Lightner. Pallbearers will be Phillip Shepherd, Scott Steinsiek, Elton James, Eddie Marshall, Gerald Ferguson and Rex Womack. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Kingsmen Sunday school class at Denman Avenue Baptist Church, J.C. Havard, and Ronnie Lusk. Memorial contributions may be made to Denman Avenue Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1351, Lufkin, Texas 75902. The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
