Billie R. Sims

Funeral services for Billie R. Sims, 75, of Hudson will be held Saturday, June 6, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin with Pastor Mardy Guidry officiating. Interment will follow in the Huntington Oddfellows Cemetery. Mrs. Sims was born July 21, 1939 in Hempstead, Texas to the late Joseph William and Zepher (Smith) Poole, and died Wednesday, June 3, 2015 in a local hospital. Mrs. Sims had resided in Lufkin since 1977. She was a retired Administrative Assistant, having worked for Axley & Rode CPAs for nine years and Temple Associates for sixteen years. Mrs. Sims loved to work crossword puzzles every day. She was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Joe Sims, Jr. of Hudson; son and daughter-in-law, Donnie and Melina Sims of Canton; daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Al Skinner of Timpson and Dana and Roland Nelson of Hudson; grandchildren, Jason Sims, Megan Langley, Jordan Holcomb, Casey Chapman, Ashley Vinson, and Katelynne Nelson; great-grandchildren, Kayden and Addison Vinson; sisters, Dottie Zuvela of Anacortes, Washington and Donna McCaleb of Decatur; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Matt Nelson in 2000; and three siblings. Pallbearers will be Billy Williams, Steve Harris, Brandon Brashear, Gary Rowe, Larry Goodwin and Darren Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Maenza and Mark Maenza. Memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, 595 Mt. Carmel Road, Lufkin, Texas 75904. The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home in Lufkin.
