Funeral services for Curtis A. “Bull” Spivey, 86, of Huntington will be held Saturday, May 9, 2015 at 4:30 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin with Brother Kevin Roy and Brother Lamar Denby officiating. Interment will follow in the Treadwell Cemetery. Mr. Spivey was born April 21, 1929 in the Salem Community, Angelina County, Texas to Sherwood M. and Divilla (Squyres) Spivey, and died Tuesday, May 5, 2015 in a local hospice facility. Mr. Spivey was a lifetime resident of Huntington. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, where he was known as “Mail Pouch” because of the cakes and mail he received. Mr. Spivey retired from the Champion Paper Mill. He was known as an avid conversationalist who loved the Lord Jesus Christ and often shared his faith. He had been a member of A.B.B.A. (American Brahman Breeders Association) since 1957 and was known as an excellent rancher and cattleman. Mr. Spivey was a member of Denman Avenue Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Judy Spivey of Huntington; daughters, Peggy Lewis and Martha Vines and husband David, all of Lufkin; sons, Greg Spivey, Sr. and wife Liz of Lumberton and Curtis “Andy” Spivey, Jr. of Huntington; granddaughters, Amy Saenz and husband Moses, Jennifer Mullins and husband Joey, all of Lufkin, Katherine Ebel and husband Jacob of Stratton, Vermont, and Danielle Vines of Lufkin; grandsons, Jerry Jeff Nerren, Davy Vines and wife Lyndy, all of Lufkin, and Greg Spivey, Jr. of Lumberton; great-granddaughters, Madison Saenz, Atlanta Mullins and Nealee Vines, all of Lufkin; great-grandson, Matthew Saenz of Lufkin; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Fannie Beth Thompson and Pauline Renfro; and brother, Manton Spivey. Pallbearers will be Justin Renfro, Davy Vines, Greg Spivey, Jr., Jerry Jeff Nerren, Royce Oliver and Bob Rice. Honorary pallbearers will be David Renfro, Lester Lowery, Elvin Lowery, Glen Summers, Don Ross, and members of the Bennie Ferguson Sunday school class at Denman Avenue Baptist Church. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice in the Pines, 1504 W. Frank Avenue, Lufkin, Texas 75904 or the Denman Avenue Baptist Church Youth Ministry, P.O. Box 1351, Lufkin, Texas 75902.
