Funeral services for Nona Virgie (Forrest) Cartwright, 90, of Huntington will be held Saturday, May 9, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Huntington with Brother Lamar Denby officiating. Interment will follow in the Herrington Cemetery in Huntington.
Mrs. Cartwright was born May 24, 1924 in Huntington, Texas to Joshua Travis Forrest and Novie (Walker) Forrest, and died Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at her residence in Huntington.
Nona had resided in Huntington for most of her life. She worked as a Registered Nurse for 50 years and retired from Southland Healthcare in Lufkin. Nona graduated from Methodist Hospital Nursing College in Houston in 1944 with an Associate Degree. She lived a charitable life and was always helping others. She was a member of the Huntington Garden Club and of Highway Baptist Church.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, George Sanford and Julia Cartwright of Huntington, William Clayton and Nancy Cartwright of Lufkin, James Genard “Jake” and Debra Cartwright of Huntington and Manuel Gerald and Cheryl Cartwright of Huntington; brothers and sisters, Marceil Waltman of Lufkin; Novie Lou Blankenship and husband Doug of Houston, Jessie Lee Forrest and wife Betty of Lufkin; 10 grandchildren including Sheila Cartwright Pride of Huntington, Jessica Cartwright Portillo of Lake Dallas, Jamie Cartwright Aponte of The Colony, Justin Cartwright of Huntington, Matthew Cartwright of Diboll, Kellee Cartwright Hayes of Huntington, James Cartwright of Huntington, Jacob Cartwright, U.S. Marines, stationed in California, Dylan Cartwright of Huntington and Jace Cartwright of Huntington; and 7 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Manuel Cartwright; brothers, Garland Forrest and Eugene Forrest; and sister, Emily Stanbery.
Pallbearers will include grandsons and grandsons-in-law, Justin Cartwright, Matthew Cartwright, James Cartwright, Jacob Cartwright, Dylan Cartwright, and Jace Cartwright as well as Ronnie Hayes, Ed Portillo and Tyler Aponte.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice in the Pines, 1504 West Frank Avenue, Lufkin, Texas 75904.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home in Huntington.
