Phil Parr

Phil Parr was born in St. Louis, Missouri on October 12, 1940 to Harry and Georgia (Pack) Parr and died at his residence in Lufkin, Texas on Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at the age of 74.

Phil attended school at the Texas State School for the Blind in Austin. Thereafter, he began a long career in radio, starting in Texas City. Phil worked for many years as a singer/songwriter and was featured in numerous TV, radio and live performances. He was a radio broadcast engineer as well as an on-air talent in many radio markets from Houston to Lufkin.

He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Luan Tatum; his son, George Parr and wife Meagan; his daughter, Sheila Parr; father-in-law, John Henry Tatum and wife JoAnn; brothers-in-law, John Henry Tatum II and wife Penny, and Scott Tatum and wife Shelley; grandchildren, Kimberly (Parr) Garcia and husband Jamie, Jeremy Parr, Tiffany Parr, Savanna Parr, and Michael Parr; great grandson, Aiden Garcia; nieces and nephews, Callie (Tatum) Crocker and husband Chase, John Tatum III, Tori Tatum, Beth Tatum, as well as the offspring of his sister, Betty Ryan of Ohio; and great nephew, Hank Crocker.

Mr. Parr was predeceased by his parents, as well as his brother, Wallace Parr, and sister, Betty Ryan.

In lieu of a traditional memorial service, Phil wanted a party. To honor his wishes, there will be a sharing of music and memories on Saturday, May 2, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. until noon next to the family residence.
