Funeral services for Dr. Joseph E. Dufner, 74, of Burke, Texas will be held Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Tom Dobbs and Scottie Stice, Director of the SBTC Disaster Relief Group officiating. Interment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery. Dr. Dufner was born August 28, 1940 in San Antonio, Texas to Robert David Dufner and Sybil Marie (Currie) Dufner and died Sunday, April 19, 2015 at his home in Burke surrounded by his family members. He was Pastor at Forest Branch Baptist Church in Livingston for 16 years and recently retired. He was a member of the Southern Baptists of Texas Convention Disaster Relief Group. Dr. Dufner was a Chaplain with the DPS, a ham radio Operator with DETARC Group and volunteered as a fireman and EMT in Seadrift, Texas. He was a member of the Angelina County Geneology Society, Unity Baptist Association and a member of the Board of Directors of Jacksonville College. He was a teacher and counselor for Livingston ISD. Dr. Dufner pastored for 15 years at First Baptist Church of Seadrift, and many other churches during his lifetime. Survivors include his wife, Betty Jane (Bourrous) Dufner of Burke; daughter, Rebecca Ruth Jones and husband Kevin of Burke; son, John David Dufner, Sr. and wife Marilyn of Seadrift; grandchildren, Misty Passmore and husband Jason, Amy Dufner, John David Dufner, Jr. all of Seadrift; Stephanie Yanez and husband Ernest of Woodsboro; great-grandson, Carson Passmore; brother, David R. Dufner, Jr. and wife Roberta of San Antonio; sister-in-law, Pat Baird and husband Mike of Burke; brother-in-law, John Bourrous of Palestine; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Deborah Dufner; and parents-in-law, J.F. and Marlene Bourrous. Pallbearers will be Jason Passmore, John Dufner, Jr., Jerry Bishop, Jim Havard, Micah Dufner, Rob Gloria, Jeffrey Baird and Jerry Stout. Honorary pallbearers will be Members of the Southern Baptists of Texas Convention Disaster Relief Group, DPS Troopers and DETARC members. Memorial contributions may be made to Forest Branch Baptist Church Building Fund, 3655 US Highway 59 North, Livingston, Texas 77351; or the Southern Baptists of Texas Convention Disaster Relief Group, PO Box 1988, Grapevine, Texas 76099; or Hospice in the Pines, 1504 West Frank Avenue, Lufkin, Texas 75904. The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
