John Leslie Wood

Funeral services for John Leslie Wood, 54, of Lufkin will be held Tuesday, April 14, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Denman Avenue Baptist Church with Pastor Jeff Moats and Brother Charles M. Roberts officiating. Graveside services with military honors will be held at 2:00 p.m. in the Lakewood Memorial Park in Henderson.

Mr. Wood was born April 11, 1960 in Eads, Colorado to Jimmie Allen and Mary Katherine (Apple) Wood, and died Thursday, April 9, 2015 at his residence.

Mr. Wood had resided in Lufkin since 1983. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was a carpenter by trade. He was a member of Shirley Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors include his companion, Linda Denson of Lufkin; mother, Kate Wood of Lufkin; brother and sister-in-law, David and Christine Wood of Kansas City, Missouri; sister-in-law, Nancy Wood of Lufkin; nephews and spouses, Andrew and Angela Wood of Littleton, Colorado, Ben and Jill Wood of Juneau, Alaska, Michael and Marlise Wood of Berlin, Germany, Brian and Julie Wood of Wisconsin, and Jon Halla of Kansas City, Missouri; nieces and spouse, Katherine and Bryan Klunder of Burbank, California, Laura Jane Wood of Lufkin and Jessica Halla of Kansas City, Missouri; great-nieces, Addison Harper Klunder, Delaney Dean Klunder, both of Burbank, California, and Cassandra Wood of Berlin, Germany; great-nephews, Lucas Wood of Berlin, Germany, David Wood, Dylan Wood, both of Juneau, Alaska, and Perry Joseph of Lufkin; and cousins, Beverly Finley Slough of Jacksonville, Florida and Robert Finley of Houston.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jimmie Allen “Jim” Wood; brothers, Jimmie Jack Wood and Garry Lynn Wood; grandparents, Jack and Faye Wood and Jack and Bonnie Apple; aunt, Joan Apple Finley; and uncle, Jack Apple, Jr.

Pallbearers will be Bob Williams, Glen Pickard, Robert Finley, Ronnie Lusk, Perry Wood and Terrance “Rosie” Rose.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Tuesday morning prior to the services.
