Betty L. (Bennett) Barrett

Funeral services for Betty L. (Bennett) Barrett, 76, of Lufkin will be held Monday, April 13, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Roy Truss and Pat Jones officiating. Interment will follow in the Mount Zion Cemetery in Trinity County. Mrs. Barrett was born October 19, 1938 in Trinity County, Texas to John Richmond and Mabel (Turner) Bennett, and died Thursday, April 9, 2015 at her daughter’s residence in Lufkin. Mrs. Barrett resided in Lufkin most of her life. She was an x-ray technician, and was employed with the Lufkin State Supported Living Center for 10 years. She was a good cook, and loved her family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren with all her heart. Mrs. Barrett was a member of the Old Union Road Church of Christ. Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy and Bruce Thornton, Marsha and Kelvin Alsbrooks, Teresa Farmer, all of Lufkin, Paula Gilbert of Bronson, and Kayla and John Matchett of Lufkin; grandchildren, Chris Thornton, Heather Hudson, Brandon Alsbrooks, Thomas Alsbrooks, Monica Breland, Roman Breland, Gary Breland, Shanna Whatley, Joe P. Breland, Joshua Breland, Marilla Wood, Elaina Gilbert, Trevor Gilbert, Casey Thomas, Andrew Matchett, and Terry Matchett; 22 great-grandchildren; sisters, Billie Jean Scogin of Apple Springs, Linda Stephens, Annette Anderson, Carolyn Whisenant, and Doris Loeffler, all of Lufkin; brother, Carl Bennett of Lufkin; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Joe Paul Barrett. Pallbearers will be Thomas Alsbrooks, Christopher Thornton, Gary Breland, Joe Paul Breland, Trevor Gilbert, Andrew Matchett, and Terry Matchett. Honorary pallbearers will be Brandon Alsbrooks and Joshua Breland. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 212 Gene Samford Drive, Lufkin, Texas 75904. The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
