Martha "Sue" Matchett

October 21, 1927 — April 1, 2015

Funeral services for Martha "Sue" Matchett, 87, of Lufkin will be held Saturday, April 4, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Harmony Hill Baptist church with Dr. John W. Greene officiating. Interment will follow in the Bennett Cemetery in Trinity County.

Mrs. Matchett was born October 21, 1927 in Trinity County, Texas, the daughter of the late L.D. and Alice (Barclay) Jones. She passed on peacefully at her home Wednesday, April 1, 2015, surrounded by her family.

Mrs. Matchett resided in Lufkin most of her life and was a member of Harmony Hill Baptist Church. Her kindness, grace and humor will be missed by all who knew her. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She lived an active lifestyle that included traveling, tennis, gardening and playing bridge. Her specialty was preparing meals for anyone sick or in need. She also volunteered her time at Harmony Hill Baptist Church. Mrs. Matchett was extremely proud of her two sons, Wendell and Greg Matchett. She was actively involved in the lives of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Wendell and Amanda Matchett and Greg and Rene Matchett, all of Lufkin; grandchildren, Amber Matchett, Ashley and Corey Pigg, Misty and Josh Zeleskey, Keith Matchett, Mariah Matchett and Matthew Matchett; great-grandchildren, Avery, Halli, Abby, Jackson, Emma, Hannah, Tripp and Hayes; sisters, Mary Alice Jenkins of Conroe and Pat Owens of Lufkin; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband, Maurice Matchett; son, Keith Matchett; one brother; and four sisters.

Pallbearers will be Keith Matchett, Matthew Matchett, Josh Zeleskey, Corey Pigg, Bill Parks, Lawrence Owens, and Hunter Hayes.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Jansen Todd, Judge David Walker, Jimmy Brooks, and Ronnie Robinson.

The family would like to thank Hospice in the Pines of Lufkin for the extraordinary care, love and support during her final days.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice in the Pines, 1504 W. Frank Avenue, Lufkin, Texas 75904.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at Carroway Funeral Home in Lufkin.
