Sue Elizabeth (Smith) Cain

Funeral services for Sue Elizabeth (Smith) Cain, 63, of Lufkin will be held Thursday, April 2, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Alex Montilla officiating. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. in the Campground Cemetery in Jasper.

Mrs. Cain was born December 28, 1951 in Jasper, Texas to Printess Jasper and Rosie Arlene Smith, and died Saturday, March 28, 2015 at Larkspur Transitional Care in Lufkin. She had resided in Lufkin for 20 years.

Her family was forced to move frequently in search of work. She lived in El Paso, South Houston, Iola, Austin, Cushing, and Appleby. She graduated from Cushing High School in 1970 before finally moving to Nacogdoches in 1974.

Mrs. Cain began working in Food Stamps for the State of Texas in 1973 before transferring to Data Communications in 1974. In 1991 she became a Regional Services Specialist, and retired at that position in 2003.

In July 1994, she married her husband Tony. She was not blessed with children, but her kitty cats, Cici, Cassy, Tinker, Boo-Boo, Miss Kitty, and Charlie Brown, were treated with the same love and affection that a child would receive. Mrs. Cain enjoyed cooking, needlepoint, scrapbooking, modeling clay, and attending arts and crafts shows.

Survivors include her husband, Tony Cain of Lufkin; sisters and brothers-in-law, Doris and Elmer Spurger of Grand Junction, Colorado and Hilda and Paul Young of Westminster, Colorado; brother and sister-in-law, Albert and Kathy Smith of Nacogdoches; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Hester Neece of Enid, Oklahoma.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Patel of M.D. Anderson, the second story staff of Woodland Heights Medical Center, Dr. Bramham Reddy, and all their staffs for all the love and special care shown to Sue during her brief battle with cancer.

In addition, special thanks to Larkspur Transitional Care and Hospice in the Pines for the extraordinary care, love, and support during her final days, and to the sitters from Quality Service for their service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 212 Gene Samford Drive, Lufkin, Texas 75904.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
