Charles Thomas "Uncle Tom" Lester

September 28, 1947 — March 24, 2015

Charles Thomas “Uncle Tom” Lester, 67, of Huntington, Texas was born September 28, 1947 in Lufkin, Texas, and went to be with his Lord and Savior Tuesday, March 24, 2015. He passed away after several months in a Houston Hospital.

Mr. Lester served in the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1968 in the 101st Airborne Division and served as a Green Beret from 1970 to 1973. He was also a member of the Texas State Guard. Mr. Lester was a security guard with a security company for over twenty years.

He had many interests and hobbies such as fishing, canoeing and outdoor activities. He loved to talk and learn about history, mainly Texas, WWI and WWII, and Vietnam. He frequently talked about jeeps, mules, guns, and his beautiful lake property. The past several years were spent watching Fox News and surfing the internet, keeping up with current events. He also enjoyed lounging in his living room looking at the beautiful day lilies planted by Hayley and watching the deer feed, the dogs play, and various birds, especially the hummingbirds, through his patio door.

A special thank you to Paige, Brad, Cody, Hayley, and Matt Neal. Their love, care and assistance allowed Uncle Tom to enjoy living at his home on Sam Rayburn during the last year of his life. Also, thanks to Angelina Home Health.

Survivors include his sisters, Betty Lester and Peggy Waggonner; nieces, Paige Neal and husband Brad, Amy Orbin and husband Will, and Anna Currie; nephews, Jason Currie and wife Karen, Jacob Currie, Joseph Kent and Garland Waggonner; great-niece, Hayley Neal; great-nephews, Cody and Matt Neal, Wyatt Orbin and Mason Waggonner; and other family members.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations in his memory be made to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), Houston VA Regional Office, 6900 Almeda Road, Room 1033, Houston, Texas 77030. Telephone (713) 383-2715.
