Memorial services for Harry J. Smith, 83, of Huntington will be held Friday, March 27, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. at the Ora Missionary Baptist Church with Brother Wes Matchett officiating.
Mr. Smith was born March 6, 1932 in Picayune, Mississippi to Carlie Smith and Elizabeth (Seal) Smith, and died Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at his residence in Huntington.
Mr. Smith had resided in Huntington for 31 years. He was a switchman at Armco Steel for 28 years. Mr. Smith loved hunting and fishing and watching football and fishing shows. He was a U.S. Navy Gunner in the Korean Conflict. Mr. Smith was a member of Ora Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include his daughters, Maris Belinda Spiers and husband Robert of Maryland, and Candace Arden Eiler and husband Gregg of Houston; son, Stanley Smith and wife LaRae of The Woodlands; 7 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; sister, Carol Palmier of Missouri; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, James Albert Smith; sister, Betty Ruth Murphy; and the mother of his children, Marilyn Stanleigh Kitch.
