Samuel "Sam" Bowers

Funeral services for Samuel “Sam” Bowers, 80, of Lufkin will be held Friday, March 27, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Lamar Denby and Dr. Darryl Smith officiating. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. in the Bethel Cemetery in Appleby. Mr. Bowers was born August 24, 1934 in Woden, Texas to the late Judson Blane and Annie Gay (Henderson) Bowers, and died Monday, March 23, 2015 in a local hospital. Mr. Bowers had resided in Lufkin since 1959. He owned M&E Grocery and Deli (across from Texas Foundries) in the 1970s, and The Washateria (on Denman) in the 1970s and 1980s. He also worked for Land O Pines Dairy Products, Tom’s Peanuts, Independent Insurance Agent, and finished his working career with Brookshire Brothers Pump N Go. Mr. Bowers was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was a Born Again Christian of the Baptist faith. Survivors include his wife, Eloise Bowers of Lufkin; daughters and sons-in-law, Debbi and Murlin Graham, Donna and David Trevino, all of Lufkin, and DeeDee Hall and Curtis McClendon of Corrigan; sons and daughters-in-law, Terry and Kay Bowers of Huntington and Jerry and Mary Bowers of Lufkin; granddaughters, Michelle Lindsey and husband John of Sibley, Louisiana, Laura Ogletree and husband Michael of Haughton, Louisiana, Melita Lucas and husband Stephen of Houston, Jessica Bowers and fiancé Brad McGuire, Karen Bowers, all of Lufkin, Davin Trevino of Austin, Samantha Hall of Lufkin, and Alison McClendon of Dallas; grandsons, Dale Graham of Lufkin, Clifton Hall and wife Rochelle of Huntington, Gary David Trevino of Lufkin, Jeremy Bowers of Huntington, Powers Trevino of Lufkin, Josh Bowers of Huntington, Kameron McClendon, Colby McClendon, both of Corrigan, and Kotie McClendon of Dallas; great-grandchildren, Justin Lindsey, Grace Lindsey, both of Sibley, Louisiana, Dalton Ogletree, Kaylee Ogletree, Olivia Graham, all of Haughton, Louisiana, Christian Lucas, Shaun Lucas, and Alyssa Lucas, all of Houston; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Chuck and Diana Clark of Nacogdoches; only nephew, Troup Clark of Nacogdoches; uncle and aunt, Milburn and Pauline Bowers of Shreveport, Louisiana; aunt, Amelia Flenniken of Nacogdoches; and a number of other relatives. Pallbearers will be Dale Graham, Clifton Hall, Gary David Trevino, Jeremy Bowers, Powers Trevino, Josh Bowers, Justin Lindsey and Brad McGuire. Honorary pallbearer will be Doc Lazarine.
