David Hammer

Funeral services for David Hammer, 58, of Lufkin will be held Saturday, March 21, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Huntington with Brother Bluet Humble officiating. Interment will follow in the Concord Cemetery.

Mr. Hammer was born August 29, 1956 in Dallas, Texas to O.D. and Edna (Allen) Hammer, and died Wednesday, March 18, 2015 in a local hospital.

Mr. Hammer excelled at the Special Olympics in softball and bowling. He loved camping, music, dancing, going to the movies, being with his family, eating at Dean’s, and singing in church. He attended the Plum Ridge Baptist Church.

Survivors include his stepmother, Versie Hammer of Zavalla; sister and brother-in-law, Sherry and Paul Tinsley of Huntington; brother, Harold Hammer of Pasadena; sister-in-law, Sue Hammer of Purcell, Oklahoma; aunts and uncles, Polly and Buddy Stretcher of Mt. Vernon, Rose Mary and Don McKee, Joyce Kinsey, Linnie and Jon Davis, Ronnie and Sue Hammer and Eldon Hammer, all of Honobia, Oklahoma; nieces, Reanna Hammer, Laura Hammer and Holly Tinsley, all of Houston, and Shera Tinsley of San Antonio; nephews and spouses, Chris and Bethany Hammer of Granbury, Tim and Mary Beth Hammer of Austin, and Mike Hammer of Houston; great-nieces, Skyler Hammer of Granbury and Christa Roberts of Houston; great-nephew, Finn Hammer of Granbury; great-great-niece, Madeline Roberts of Houston; and special friends, Rebecca Levias, Geneva and Don Graham and Pam Ross.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Randy Hammer and Lloyd Hammer; and grandparents, Eldon and Leona Hammer.
Pallbearers will be his nieces and nephews.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dwayne Simon, Keenan Westmoreland, Kevin Westmoreland, Rider Brown, and Jessie Henderson, his roommates from the Cooper House in Lufkin.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Area 7-East Texas Special Olympics, 3416 Denman Avenue, #4, Lufkin, Texas 75901.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home in Huntington.
